    Artist Statment

I am a happily married father of two beautiful daughters and an elementary art teacher for the Pittsburgh Public Schools. I grew up in Friendship and have spent most of my life in Pittsburgh. I have also worked in Colorado District 11 Schools and Cherry Creek schools.

I love to make art, which is mostly a matter of compulsion; I create because I must. It is a selfish endeavor that I pursue vigorously. I love to draw, paint, and sculpt. In large part I have done this quietly and on my own; however, after moving back to Pittsburgh, I discovered two fantastic organizations for artists. Both Associated Artists of Pittsburgh and the Pittsburgh Society of Sculptors have been life-changing for me. Discovering and becoming a part of the SOS and AAP have been some of the most positive artistic experiences I have had in terms of connecting with other artists and gaining exposure for my own work.

My most common subjects are people and horses. I have been drawn to the forms of both since childhood. I have a great love of the beauty of the human figure and equine form. Consequently, these subjects inspire my work. While my compulsion drives me to create, I believe that my love of art is the prime motivation for my career as a teacher. It is extremely satisfying to share my passions with others.
