‘Pittsburgh IS Craft’ (and More) at Contemporary Craft

Contemporary CraftContemporary Craft (CC) is excited to announce the expansion of its “Pittsburgh IS Craft” initiative through partnerships with Pittsburgh Glass Center (PGC) and Union Project (UP). “Pittsburgh IS Craft” seeks to bring Pittsburgh’s craft community to the forefront, promoting Pittsburgh as a national and international craft destination.

Between Contemporary Craft, Pittsburgh Glass Center, and Union Project, the organizations encompass what most people relate to as the traditional craft materials—fibers, ceramics, glass, metal, and wood.

“We are excited to announce this partnership and expand our work. In the coming months we look forward to sharing more about our vision for Pittsburgh and its role in the national and international craft scene, especially with the Modern Craft Market in March,” says Rachel Rearick, executive director of Contemporary Craft.

“Pittsburgh’s arts and culture sector is a cornerstone of the city’s identity. ‘Pittsburgh IS Craft’ will ensure that the arts, and craft in particular, continue to thrive, enriching our community while also contributing to Pittsburgh’s reputation as a vibrant, world-class city,” says Heather McElwee of Pittsburgh Glass Center. Jeffrey Dorsey of the Union Project comments: “In a region full of potters, we’re supporting local artists in the making of amazing studio and production pottery, ceramic sculpture, and murals, using ceramics in architectural applications, ceramics as activism, and much more.”

In addition, “Peregrination: Xiaojing Yan” arrived in Contemporary Craft’s Main Gallery this February. In this solo exhibition, on view through May 2, artist Xiaojing Yan explores the evolving relationship between identity, tradition, and the natural world. Her art reflects a journey of transformation through a weaving of folklore, ritual, and nature. Register for either of the two free Guided Gallery Tours, March 21 and May 2.

The Children’s Home of Pittsburgh Celebrates 25 Years of Shake Your Booties Annual Gala

The Children’s Home of Pittsburgh will celebrate the 25th anniversary of its annual Shake Your Booties Gala this spring. In honor of 25 years of impact, the event will proudly embrace hometown spirit with a special Pittsburgh-inspired theme—“Shake Yinz Booties.”

This year’s event will take place on Saturday, April 18, 2026, at an exciting new venue, the Pittsburgh Brewing Company (150 Ferry St., Creighton, PA). Friends, supporters, and community members are invited to join in celebrating this milestone anniversary in true Pittsburgh style.

This year’s gala will offer even more games and interactive experiences for guests. Cocktail hour begins at 5:00 p.m. and will feature an interactive live painting experience led by Vinnie Candelore of VC2 Art. The main program will highlight student ambassadors Sam and Ali from The Children’s Home’s Child’s Way Daycare. The gala’s “soundtrack” will be provided by DJ Ricky, and there will be a silent auction. For the fourth year in a row, the event will be hosted by renowned CBS sideline reporter Aditi Kinkhabwala.

Proceeds from sponsorships, ticket sales, and donations directly support The Children’s Home’s mission to strengthen, empower, and support families in our community. With more than $4 million in free medical care provided each year, this year’s fundraising goal of $300,000 will help ensure children and families continue to receive the critical services they need.
