Winter 2021|volume 15|Issue 2

    From the Publisher

    Chuck Shane, Publisher

This year’s annual holiday issue features two gift guides: the original, an overview of the richness and variety of products and services available from our advertisers; plus, the special Mahla Antiques presentation of gift suggestions from their dealers who, throughout the year, fill 10,000 square feet with memorable gifts for any occasion. Mahla’s is a must visit.

Bringing the holiday spirit to the Strip in a big way is McCaffery Interests’s Terminal Building. Perhaps for the first time in memory, Santa will be visiting the Strip. The beautifully renovated Terminal structure on Smallman Street is hosting Santa and a variety of events in the next several weeks.

As is evident from our gift guides, the Strip District and Lawrenceville neighborhoods provide the real holiday shopping experience. And “neighborhoods” is also the subject of our featured profile, wherein YouTube documentarian Dean Bog reveals behind-the-scenes details and his unique approach for his popular series Neighborhoods of Pittsburgh.

Cynthia Weisfield’s expertise and knowledge of food has resulted in her contributing two articles—a survey of the festive foods of diverse holiday traditions (and also introducing the new chef at Cioppino, Robert “RC” Carter), while also announcing the arrival of some very special gourmet pasta products at Penn Mac.

We also introduce Salonika’s Chris Balouris and his wife, Chrysoula, who are responsible not only for bringing some of the finest in Mediterranean food to Pittsburgh but also opening an authentic Greek restaurant in Bellevue.

And, as always, we at The Strip! hope you enjoy this issue, and we wish you all a very happy holiday season and a healthy, happy, and prosperous new year.
