Winter 2017-18|volume 11|Issue 2

    From the Publisher

The Strip District and Lawrenceville have experienced many changes during the past decade. In this issue, writer Dan Casciato talks with the person who has been a positive force at the forefront of these changes, Chuck Hammel, CEO of Pitt Ohio Express, located in the Strip.

Another notable is Lawrenceville resident Ron Donoughe. One of our most successful artists, Ron discusses his craft and his specialization in local scenes with Donald Miller, art and architecture critic emeritus of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.

To round out the issue’s fascinating profiles, we present Max Miller, whose “spirits”—notably
bourbon—events are among Pittsburgh’s prime attractions. Another profile of sorts covers the
Homeless Children’s Education Fund, which has long had a presence in the Strip.

Of course, this being our annual holiday edition, we again present our Gift Guide along with a feature by Denise Artman in which many of the area’s endearing personalities reveal their favorite “holiday memories.”

    See you in the neighborhoods.

“The universe is full of magical things patiently waiting for our wits to grow sharper.”
